Oilers place forward Leon Draisaitl on injured reserve

Todd McLellan talks with the media about the Oilers' struggles to start the season.

The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Leon Draisaitl on injured reserve, the team announced Monday.

Draisaitl suffered a concussion last week against the Winnipeg Jets. It was initially believed to be an eye injury, but in actuality produced concussion symptoms. There’s no timetable for his return.

The 21-year-old Draisaitl has one goal and two assists in three games this season, spent mostly on Connor McDavid’s wing. He’s in the first season of an eight-year, $68-million contract signed in August.

It’s a big blow for the reeling Oilers, who have just one win in four games this season.

Edmonton will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night at Rogers Place.
