Flyers’ Lecavalier takes stick through helmet

There are high sticks, and then there are high sticks that get stuck in the recipient's helmet. Then there's Kevin Hayes' high stick that gets so stuck, that Vincent Lecavalier had to remove his helmet.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Vincent Lecavalier was lucky to avoid injury Saturday on a play where the stick of New York Rangers forward Kevin Hayes went right though the earhole of his helmet.

The incident occurred as players battled for a loose puck in the neutral zone early in the first period, however Hayes wasn’t assessed a high-sticking penalty.

This isn’t the first time this season we’ve seen a play like this that went unpenalized. Earlier this month, David Perron of the Edmonton Oilers got his stick got caught between the helmet and visor of Ottawa Senators defenceman Mark Borowiecki.
