Nashville Predators general manager David Poile is “cautiously optimistic” about signing Harvard University standout Jimmy Vesey.

Poile, speaking on Hockey Central at Noon Friday, said he’s hoping to sign Vesey in the next two or three weeks.

“We think he can play on one of our top two lines right away into the lineup and help us,” said Poile.

“And if that’s the case, that’s better than any trade deadline deal I can make and it didn’t cost us our first or second round pick.”

The Predators drafted Vesey in the third round of the 2012 NHL draft. The six-foot-three, 205 pound left winger has 23 goals and 21 assists in 30 games this season for the Crimson.
