The Nashville Predators have placed defenceman Ryan Ellis on injured reserve with what the team is calling an upper-body injury.
Ellis was injured during the first period of the Winter Classic after receiving an elbow to the head from Dallas Stars forward Corey Perry. Ellis was down on the ice for a short time, before being helped off the ice. Perry received a game misconduct and will have a hearing Friday for the hit.
In 39 games this season, the 29-year-old has six goals and 20 points.
In a corresponding move, the Predators have recalled defenceman Alexandre Carrier from their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. The 23-year-old has four goals and 25 points in 34 games with the Admirals this season.
