The Nashville Predators have signed defenceman Matt Carle to a one-year, $700,000 contract, the club announced Wednesday.

Carle totalled two goals and nine points in 64 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2015-16.

The 31-year-old became a free agent earlier this summer after the Lightning elected to buy out the final two years of a six-year, $33-million contract.

Carle has registered 45 goals and 282 points in 724 career games with the San Jose Sharks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Lightning.

The Sharks originally selected Carle in the second round, 47th overall, at the 2003 NHL Draft.
