College free agent Alex Kerfoot signs with Avalanche

Alex Kerfoot, an unsigned college free agent, has decided to start his NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche.

Kerfoot’s contract is for two years at an entry-level salary, the team announced Thursday.

The 23-year-old was originally drafted in the fifth round (150th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in 2012 and has spent the past four seasons with Harvard University. In 2016-17, Kerfoot was tied for his team lead in scoring with 45 points in 36 games and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward is a native of West Vancouver, B.C.
