Senators’ Zack Smith suffers broken bone in face

Matt Duchene scored twice in his return to Colorado but it was the Avalanche who came away with the 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Ottawa Senators forward Zack Smith suffered a facial fracture in Friday’s 6-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Smith suffered the injury in the second period after taking a skate to the face.

Senators coach Guy Boucher described the injury as “serious” following the game and Smith will be flying to Ottawa for treatment.

A timetable for Smith’s return is unknown.
