Apples, Clappers and Chiclets: Snoop Dogg explains classic hockey slang

If you’re a life-long diehard hockey fan, you may already know all about hockey slang. But if you’re new, or relatively new, to the game, it may be confusing to hear people talk about such things as lip lettuce, pizza and biscuits without any other context.

Don’t worry, Dogg Cherry, aka No. 99+2 The Greater One, aka Snoop Dogg is here to help.

If you haven’t seen Snoop Dogg’s contributions to the Stanley Cup Playoffs yet, we highly recommend hopping over to the NHL’s Twitter account. So far, Snoop has talked about the history of the Stanley Cup and, on Wednesday, he got into explaining some slang in the sport.

“The five-hole is the space between the goalie’s legs,” he says. “Going five-hole sounds dirty, but it just means scoring in the most humiliating way possible.”

Dogg Cherry goes from A-Z, explaining that A is for apples and assists, Biscuit simply means the puck and Flow is about “wild hair.”

“Pipes are the goal post. I’ll use it in a sentence,” he says. “That guy hit the pipe.”

His overall conclusion was that many of these words are based on food.

“Whoever came up with this has got the munchies and I need to see y’all in the green room.”

Still so early in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there figures to be much more to come from 99+2, The Greater One. Stay tuned.
