How the Maple Leafs almost got Connor McDavid

The panel reviews the excitement of the 2015 NHL Draft Lottery process and the Edmonton Oilers rebuild.

Sorry Leafs fans, you’re not going to like what you’re about to read.

Believe it or not the Toronto Maple Leafs were just one number away from winning the Connor McDavid sweepstakes Saturday night.

The Oilers won the draft lottery with a number combination of 5-14-6-1, however after the first three numbers were selected the Maple Leafs had the best odds to win the lottery and the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Salt in the wounds for a franchise in the midst of a complete rebuild. Brendan Shanahan’s team currently sits in the No. 4 spot and a mock draft from Sportsnet’s Damien Cox has the Leafs choosing McDavid’s Erie Otters teammate and OHL scoring champion Dylan Strome.
