Canucks’ Jannik Hansen fined for diving

Jannik Hansen was fined $2,000 after being called for embellishment against the Kings.

Jannik Hansen was caught diving twice by the NHL this season, and now he’s been forced to pay.

The Vancouver Canucks forward was fined $2,000 Thursday as supplementary discipline under NHL Rule 64, which punishes players for embellishment.

Hansen was issued a warning following this incident, flagged by the league’s hockey operations department during the Canucks’ Nov. 4 game against Pittsburgh:

His second citation, which triggered the fine, was issued for an incident in the third period during during the Canucks’ victory over Tampa Bay on Dec. 22. Hansen was assessed a minor penalty for embellishment on the play, while Lightning defenceman Nikita Nesterov received an interference minor.

Should Hansen be cited for diving/embellishment a third time this season, he will be fined $3,000.

Hansen joins Ottawa’s Zack Smith and Detroit’s Teemu Pulkkinen on the list of divers fined by the league this season.
