After a few tough losses to its southern rivals, Canada enacted some revenge on the ice.
Canada demolished the United States 8-1 in the gold-medal game of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton on Saturday, winning the annual under-18 tournament for the 26th time.
The top 2028 prospects led the way, as Maddox Schultz and Liam Pue each had two goals and an assist. Top 2027 prospects Brock England and Landon DuPont also had a say, finishing with two goals and three assists, respectively.
The Canadians came out firing, as England opened the scoring only 1:24 into the showdown, then scored two more unanswered.
Though the Americans responded with a goal of their own near the end of the first period, Canada came back from the first intermission to score three more unanswered and build up a seemingly insurmountable lead.
Canada put the nail in the coffin less than a minute into the third period, as Pue tucked home a breakaway goal off an outlet pass from Schultz.
The win marked a return to gold for the Canadians at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup after falling short in 2025 with a third-place finish. The Americans won last year's tourney, beating Sweden 5-3 in the gold-medal game. En route to that gold, Team USA took down Canada 4-3 in the semifinals.
Canada last won the U-18 tournament in 2024.
