The Barrie Colts will continue to hold out defenceman Kashawn Aitcheson from their lineup when they play the Sudbury Wolves until the Ontario Hockey League concludes its investigation into allegations that a bounty was placed on Aitcheson.
“I know the league is going to make a fair judgment here, but we’ve said until they make their judgment, and from what I hear it’s going to be sooner than later, we’re not putting our guy on the ice until that team learns that something like that can’t happen," said Colts general manager and head coach Marty Williamson after Barrie’s 7-3 win in Sudbury on Wednesday night, on Barrie 360 radio.
The OHL opened its investigation on Feb. 21 after accusations surfaced that the Wolves had placed a bounty on Aitcheson, who laid a hard but legal hit on Wolves forward Nathan Villeneuve during a game between Barrie and Sudbury on Jan. 18.
Aitcheson did not play when the two teams met again three days after the incident or on Wednesday night. The Colts' next game against the Wolves is March 16 in Barrie. The teams play once more in the regular season after that, on March 22 in Sudbury.
