The Memorial Cup is returning to Quebec City in 2028 after the Canadian Hockey League selected the Quebec Remparts to host the national junior hockey championship.
The Remparts beat out Moncton in a bidding process to bring the tournament back to Quebec City for the first time since 2015.
The tournament will be held at the 18,000-seat Vidéotron Centre after the 2015 championship was staged at Pepsi Coliseum.
"The committee just viewed when they took it all together, Quebec was just slightly ahead," Canadian Hockey League president Dan MacKenzie said in an interview with Sportsnet. "It wasn't by a lot, it was very close. I'd say it was a very tough decision for the site selection committee. They just felt it was Quebec's time and they really put forward a great bid."
It will be the fourth Memorial Cup hosted by Quebec City since the round-robin format was introduced in 1972.
The four-team tournament will feature the host Remparts and the playoff champions of the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
The Remparts have two 2027 NHL first-round draft prospects in forwards Carter Meyer and James Scantlebury. The 2028 Memorial Cup could be a recruiting tool to keep those players with the Remparts another year instead of going to the NCAA.
The 2027 Memorial Cup will be held in Guelph, Ont., from May 20-30, while dates for the 2028 tournament have yet to be announced.
