Just as things were looking up for Aaron Sanchez, they came back down again.
Following his best start of the season last week, which saw him give up one run in six innings while striking out five, the righty surrendered a season-high seven runs in 3.1 innings on Thursday against the Worcester Red Sox.
The day started off well for the 31-year-old as he made it through the first three innings without giving up a run and allowing only three baserunners.
However, it all took a turn for the worse in the fourth, as three straight hits to open up the inning brought two runs in. Then a passed ball, three more singles and two more walks forced Bisons manager Casey Candaele to yank his starter, who gave up all seven of his runs in a disastrous inning.
He finished the game with seven runs on six hits and four walks, while striking out four in 3.1 innings. He now has a 2-3 record with a 10.30 ERA over his six starts in triple-A this season.
The Bisons would eventually lose 14-1 as the Bisons relievers were unable to provide a different result from the mound.
Sanchez, who was selected by the Blue Jays in the first round of the 2010 draft, was a key member of the team's starting rotation during their playoff runs in 2015 and 2016. He rejoined the team earlier this season on a minor-league contract.
