It was not the ideal day for Shane Bieber.
The Toronto Blue Jays right-hander struggled in his second rehab outing with the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday, allowing six hits and five earned runs over 2.1 innings of work, including a three-run homer to Pedro León in the bottom of the third.
He threw 49 pitches — 35 of them for strikes — and did not issue a walk while striking out two.
This is Bieber's second rehab outing as he works his way back from forearm fatigue that has kept him sidelined all season. He worked two shutout innings in his first rehab start with the Florida Complex League on Monday.
The 30-year-old was acquired by Toronto at the trade deadline last season as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. He ended up making seven regular-season starts for Toronto, throwing 40.1 innings while striking out 37 and posting a 3.57 ERA.
Bieber underwent an MRI during the off-season that showed "nothing was wrong, just forearm fatigue," manager John Schneider said.
Max Scherzer, also recovering from injury, worked three scoreless innings in his first rehab start with triple-A Buffalo.
