The Toronto Blue Jays parted with one of the greatest pitchers in franchise history on Sunday.
Kevin Gausman has been traded to the Chicago Cubs for a pair of prospects, prematurely ending his time with the Blue Jays midway through the final season of his five-year contract.
Gausman ranks in the top 10 in career Blue Jays starts, strikeouts, ERA, and WAR, and was a crucial part of Toronto’s rotation during its 2025 World Series run.
“Kev will go down as one of the best free agent signings the organization has made, especially from a pitching standpoint," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said before Gausman's final Blue Jays start on Saturday. "He's remarkably consistent, professional, good teammate, low maintenance. Everything that you want from a frontline dude."
