The Toronto Blue Jays will go to a familiar opener for a bullpen game on Wednesday.
Right-hander Braydon Fisher will make his ninth start of the season when he faces the Athletics in the series finale, the Blue Jays announced early Wednesday morning.
Fisher last pitched on Sunday, throwing just 10 pitches against the Kansas City Royals.
After using six pitchers in Monday's series-opening loss, the Blue Jays needed only starter Jose Soriano (seven innings) and Spencer Miles (two innings) for Tuesday's victory.
That is good news for a Blue Jays bullpen that will need to eat innings on Wednesday (3:05 p.m., Sportsnet, Sportsnet+). The Blue Jays have an off-day Thursday, so manager John Schneider has one less thing to worry about when mapping out his game-plan.
Fisher is 3-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 70.1 innings over 69 appearances this season.
The Athletics are starting left-hander Brady Basso, who also is not a regular starter.
Basso (1-2, 4.32 ERA) has started four of his 22 games. His longest outing this season was three innings in relief last week at Seattle.
