Blue Jays' Clase scratched late, replaced in lineup by Straw

The Toronto Blue Jays made a last-second change in the outfield on Tuesday.

Jonatan Clase was a late scratch just before first pitch due to left foot discomfort, which developed during his pre-game running work, the team announced.

Myles Straw took his spot in left field and batted ninth in his place.

Clase, 24, has played well in his short time with the Blue Jays this season. He has two home runs, six RBIs and a .273/.360/.545 slash line in nine games.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native was acquired via trade from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Yimi Garcia — who resigned with the Blue Jays in the following off-season — at the 2024 deadline.

Clase has no previous injury history in his time with the Blue Jays this season, aside from a knee contusion he sustained on June 17, when he was also replaced by Straw.
