The Toronto Blue Jays are making some room on their roster as their pitching staff returns to a modicum of health.
Righty Yariel Rodriguez was designated for assignment while reliever Tommy Nance was reinstated from the 15-day injured list, the team announced Monday.
Nance is active for Monday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies (Sportsnet, 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT).
Rodriguez, 29, has struggled in his third season with the Blue Jays, posting a 7.71 ERA and 2.036 WHIP in only 10 appearances.
His last outing came Friday against the Baltimore Orioles when he gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk while getting just two outs in a 13-3 loss.
Over his three seasons in Toronto, the 29-year-old Cuban has a 4.05 ERA in 97 appearances, including 22 starts.
He joined the team as a free agent ahead of the 2024 season after spending three seasons in Japan's NPB, and was used primarily as a starter in his first year with Toronto.
Nance, meanwhile, hit the 15-day injured list on May 17 with right forearm discomfort. He last appeared for the Blue Jays on May 16 against the Detroit Tigers.
The 35-year-old has enjoyed a solid third season with the Blue Jays, posting a 3.86 ERA and 1.143 WHIP in 21 innings over 20 appearances.
