The Toronto Blue Jays are giving their leadoff hitter some more time to return to the lineup.
George Springer was transferred to the family medical emergency list after his paternity leave expired, manager John Schneider told reporters Saturday.
Schneider said everybody is doing well, but Springer needed some more time "tying up some loose ends," and the hope is that the designated hitter could return Monday in San Francisco.
Springer and his wife, Charlise, announced the birth of a baby boy on Canada Day, their third child.
The 36-year-old has eight home runs in 63 games in 2026 and is slashing .221/.308/.373 with 56 strikeouts and 28 walks.
Toronto will play the second game of its weekend series against the Seattle Mariners before playing the Giants.
