Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martinez is out day-to-day after sustaining a left hip contusion during Monday's split-squad game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Martinez was injured when he was hit by a fastball from Phillies reliever and former Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano.
The Phillies defeated the Blue Jays 4-2.
The 23-year-old Martinez is batting .333/.385/.500 with one home run and three RBIs in 13 games during spring training.
Martinez was suspended 80 games last June for violating the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program after testing positive for clomiphene, a performance-enhancing substance.
The suspension came days after Martinez made his major-league debut with the Blue Jays.
