Blue Jays place Merryweather on 15-day injured list with a left abdominal strain

Watch as Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Julian Merryweather is forced to exit the game in the bottom of the 7th inning after appearing to pick up an injury when giving up a double against Baltimore Orioles left-fielder Kyle Stowers.

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right-hander Julian Merryweather on the 15-day injured list with a left abdominal strain, the team said Tuesday.

In a corresponding move, the team recalled Jeremy Beasley from triple-A Buffalo. He will be active tonight against the Baltimore Orioles.

Merryweather was lifted from Monday's game against the Orioles with left side discomfort.

Merryweather replaced starter Alek Manoah out of the bullpen for the seventh inning and recorded two outs around an Adley Rutschman single. But his fourth batter, Kyle Stowers in his MLB debut, brought Rutschman home with an RBI double, and Merryweather was replaced by Adam Cimber.

While Merryweather didn't appear in discomfort as he left the game, head athletic trainer Jose Julian Ministral did meet him on the mound and was seen on cameras talking to the reliever as they walked off the field together.

Merryweather entered play Monday with a 6.11 ERA in 19 appearances this season, with 16 strikeouts.
