Blue Jays place Tim Mayza on 15-day injured list with forearm inflammation

Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo gives an injury update on pitcher Tim Mayza, who was placed on a 15-day IL today.

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Tim Mayza on the 15-day injured list with left forearm inflammation, the team said Monday, rendering him unavailable as the team begins its series against the Seattle Mariners.

The move is retroactive to May 15. It was not immediately clear when Mayza sustained the injury, or how severe the inflammation is, though the team said he will continue to undergo testing for it, including an MRI.

In Mayza's place, the Blue Jays have recalled Andrew Vasquez from triple-A Buffalo and listed him as active for tonight's game.

Mayza has been among the Blue Jays' more stable options on the mound this season, posting a 2.08 ERA across 13 innings of work.

Vasquez most recently tossed 22 pitches for the Blue Jays in a one-inning relief appearance against the New York Yankees, a game which ended up being a 9-1 loss. He was optioned to triple-A Buffalo shortly after.

The Blue Jays' game against the Mariners, which will mark the first time this season the roof of the Rogers Centre will be open, begins at 7:07 p.m. ET. Live coverage can be seen on Sportsnet, Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet NOW.
