Blue Jays promote top prospect Gabriel Moreno to triple-A Buffalo

Former Blue Jays pitcher and 2011 All-Star, Ricky Romero joins SN Today to discuss how he'd approach pitching to MVP candidate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. during his best years in the majors.

The Toronto Blue Jays are promoting top catching prospect Gabriel Moreno to triple-A Buffalo as the Bisons get set to compete in the 'Final Stretch' post-season play.

Moreno, 21, is currently the Blue Jays' top prospect according to MLB Pipeline and is the 33rd best prospect across all of baseball.

Moreno hit .373/.441/.651 with eight home runs and 45 RBIs in 32 games with double-A New Hampshire this season, his first at that level. His season was cut short by a thumb fracture suffered in late June, but he has been rehabbing the injury in the Florida Complex League and seems poised to return to the field before the season ends.

The 2021 season is the fourth for Moreno in the Toronto organization after he signed as a free agent in August of 2016.

The Bisons are competing in triple-A's 'Final Stretch' after winning the Northeast Division title, the club's first division title since 2005. Buffalo will now host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for five games before visiting the Syracuse Mets for five games to close the season.
