Entering this week's road series against the Columbus Clippers, Buffalo Bisons second baseman Orelvis Martinez was hitting .318 with one home run over his first 12 games at triple-A in 2024.
But after the Buffalo Bisons' 6-4 win on Sunday and another two-hit performance from the Toronto Blue Jays' No. 2 prospect, Martinez left the weekend batting .333 with six home runs and a 1.073 OPS.
After going hitless through his first three at-bats of the game, Martinez came through with an RBI single in the eighth inning before blasting a three-run home run over the batter's eye in centre field.
Baseball Savant recorded the ninth-inning shot at 108.6 m.p.h. off the bat and an estimated 410 feet.
The pair of knocks extended Martinez's hit streak to 15 games, and had him finish the series against Cleveland's triple-A affiliate with 10 hits in 28 at-bats, five homers, 13 RBI and three walks.
Martinez hit a home run in the last game of the Bisons' previous series and has now left the yard in five of his last seven contests and hit six total in that time.
Two of Martinez's blasts in Columbus were of the late-game, go-ahead variety. The 22-year-old stepped to the plate in extra innings on Wednesday and in the ninth inning on Thursday and delivered the decisive blow in a pair of Bisons wins.
His hot streak continued on Friday, when Martinez went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers in a Buffalo loss.
According to MLB Pipeline, Martinez has above-average power, grading out as a 60 on a 20-80 scale. With the Blue Jays entering their weekend series with the San Diego Padres ranked 23rd in home runs and 22nd in slugging, Martinez's raw power would likely be a welcome addition to a team that could use some more impact bats in its lineup.
The Bisons are back in action on Tuesday as they return home for a series with the Iowa Cubs.
