Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Rowdy Tellez has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right knee strain after undergoing an MRI on Wednesday morning.
Outfielder Billy McKinney was recalled from Toronto’s alternate training site in a corresponding roster move.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Travis Shaw will be sharing time at first in Tellez’s absence, per Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo.
Tellez appeared to aggravate his right knee while attempting to make a defensive play in foul territory in the eighth inning of Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over the New York Yankees. The 25-year-old finished the eighth but was removed to start the ninth.
Tellez is hitting .291 with a .909 OPS through 34 games this season, splitting time between first base and designated hitter.
