Blue Jays' Ryu will have elbow assessed following MRI

Watch as Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins speak about Hyun-Jin Ryu's injury, going to see a specialist, and what the next steps are in the immediate future.

Injured Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu is going for an assessment on his elbow with a doctor in California on Thursday.

An MRI showed "chronic changes" to the elbow, according to Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins, giving the club reason for optimism that the injury is not serious.

Ryu already has been on the injured list twice this season.

The veteran went on the 15-day IL last week with forearm inflammation after leaving a start against the Chicago White Sox after just four innings.

Ryu is 2-0 with a 5.33 ERA in six starts this season.
