Veteran right-hander Casey Lawrence will return to the Toronto Blue Jays, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports.

The 34-year-old will serve as a long man out of the bullpen after serving as a starter for triple-A Buffalo most of this season.

Lawrence is 8-1 with a 1.77 ERA with the Bisons. He got into two games in relief for Toronto in May, allowing one run in 3.1 innings.

The Blue Jays had a heavy bullpen game on Thursday as Kevin Gausman couldn't get out of the third inning in a 10-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

The major league-leading New York Yankees are at Rogers Centre for three games this weekend.

Originally signed by the Blue Jays in 2010, Lawrence made his major-league debut with Toronto in 2017 before he was designated for assignment and then joined the Seattle Mariners.

Lawrence then went to Japan for two years before joining the Minnesota Twins in 2020. He signed a minor-league contract with Toronto last year.
