The Toronto Blue Jay have agreed to minor-league contracts with catcher Christian Bethancourt and left-hander Richard Lovelady, the team announced Wednesday.
Both players have also been invited to the team's spring training camp.
Bethancourt split the 2024 season between the Miami Marlins and the Chicago Cubs, registering a .209 batting average with seven doubles, five home runs, and 22 RBI in 62 games. The 33-year-old also threw out 12 runners from behind the plate.
In 428 career MLB contests between the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Athletics, Tampa Bay Rays, Marlins, and Cubs, he has batted .229 with 60 doubles, 35 home runs, 135 RBI, and a total of 58 runners caught stealing.
Lovelady made 35 appearances with the Rays and Cubs last season posting a 3.77 ERA with a 7.6-per-cent walk rate, a 16.8-per-cent strikeout rate, and a 54.5 per cent groundball rate.
