The Toronto Blue Jays gave away an out to the Los Angeles Dodgers to start Game 7 of the World Series.
With George Springer on first and one out, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. took a called strike three on the outside corner. Springer was on the move when Dodgers starter Shohei Ohtani delivered the full-count pitch, but he started to slow up mid-way to second, appearing to think that Guerrero had been walked.
Will Smith immediately threw to Dodgers second baseman Miguel Rojas, who easily tagged Springer to end the inning.
The Blue Jays already learned the hard way that giving away outs to a powerhouse team like the Dodgers is a recipe for disaster.
In Tuesday's Game 3, Toronto made multiple errors on the base paths. Bo Bichette was thrown out in the second inning after starting to advance to second on what he thought was ball four, but was actually called a strike.
The Dodgers went on to win 6-5 in a marathon 18-inning game that tied for the longest in World Series history.
On the earlier play, Blue Jays manager John Schneider asked for "more clarity" from the home plate umpire, Mark Wegner, with his strike three call.
However, in Game 7 on Saturday, Jordan Baker's strike three call from behind home plate was unmistakable.
