The Toronto Blue Jays could be without one of their top defensive players as they continue to battle for the final American League wild-card spot.
Blue Jays shortstop Andres Gimenez was announced as "day-to-day" by manager John Schneider following the team's 10-1 defeat to the Detroit Tigers Tuesday.
Schneider said Gimenez was dealing with some hamstring soreness. The 28-year-old started for the Blue Jays at shortstop but wasn't seen when the team came out for the eighth inning. Ernie Clement moved over to take short while Davis Schneider was inserted into the game to play second base.
Gimenez is a three-time Gold Glove winner. This season he's hitting .245/.290/.362 with nine home runs and 57 RBI in 140 games played.
Toronto will conclude its series with the Tigers Wednesday, trailing the Cleveland Guardians by two games for the final AL wild-card spot.
