As the Toronto Blue Jays look to take the sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals, they'll ask left-hander Eric Lauer to start on the mound Wednesday afternoon.
The team confirmed the decision to reporters following Tuesday night's 10-9 win in St. Louis, securing their fifth straight series victory, during which time they've won 12 of 15 games.
Lauer, 30, has a 2.08 ERA with 24 strikeouts and nine walks across 26 innings of work. He signed a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays in December and was called up to the big club on April 30.
The Blue Jays have an open rotation spot as they wait for marquee free agent signing Max Scherzer to return from a thumb injury that has kept him sidelined since the end of March.
Meanwhile, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is expected to be active on Wednesday afternoon after a scheduled day off on Tuesday.
Outfielder Nathan Lukes was also a late scratch on Tuesday evening with neck discomfort. Manager John Schneider did not provide an update on his availability post-game.
You can watch the Blue Jays take on the Cardinals in a matinee matchup on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 2:15 p.m. ET / 11:15 a.m. PT.
