Blue Jays to start Trevor Richards in bullpen game vs. Rangers Sunday

Hazel Mae and Shi Davidi discuss Bo Bichette’s refusal to cool down and the process behind his recent success, and what Kevin Gausman’s five-inning start means for Sunday’s finale against the Texas Rangers.

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Trevor Richards will start on the mound for a bullpen game when the club takes on the Texas Rangers in a series finale Sunday.

It will be Richards' second time starting this month. The 29-year-old reliever started Sept. 3 against the Pittsburgh Pirates — allowing one hit over two innings in an eventual 4-1 Blue Jays win.

Richards began his career as a starter for the Miami Marlins but hadn’t opened a game before last week since he started four for the Rays in 2020. This season, Richards has a 4.71 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 54 appearances for Toronto.

With Richards starting, the Blue Jays can rest their starters ahead of a crucial five-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays next week.
