One of the top prospects in the Toronto Blue Jays system will have season-ending elbow surgery.
Right-handed pitcher Jake Bloss, who was pitching at triple-A Buffalo, will have UCL elbow surgery, Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced Tuesday.
Bloss, 23, is the Blue Jays' No. 6 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline and was a key piece in the Yusei Kikuchi trade with the Houston Astros last season. He had a 6.46 ERA with 24 strikeouts in six triple-A starts this season before being shut down with his injury.
The injury is a further blow to the Blue Jays' starting depth this season. Max Scherzer and Alek Manoah are also on the 60-day injured list.
