The Toronto Blue Jays will get a key bat back on Monday as they open their series against the Los Angeles Angels.
Centre-fielder Daulton Varsho is batting seventh after exiting Friday's game in Phoenix early with left knee discomfort. He sat out the final two games of the series against the Diamondbacks.
Varsho took one at-bat in the top of the first, striking out looking, and played two innings defensively before Myles Straw took over in centre.
After the game, Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that the discomfort was from Varsho's quad down to his knee.
The 29-year-old was one of Toronto's hottest hitters before suffering the injury. Through 19 games this season, Varsho owns a .262/.333/.462 slashline with three home runs and four doubles.
While the Blue Jays will get Varsho back for Monday's opener, they are running out a new-look lineup, with Andrés Giménez sitting as the team faces Angels lefty Reid Detmers.
Ernie Clement will slide over to play shortstop, Davis Schneider will lead off and play left field and Lenyn Sosa will play second base.
