Trey Yesavage's much-anticipated return could be right around the corner.
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters on Sunday that the 22-year-old is set to pitch with triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday against visiting Rochester as Yesavage works back from injury.
Schneider added that if Yesavage's rehab outing goes well, the righty could return to the Blue Jays to pitch next Sunday in Texas or next Monday in Baltimore.
The righty hasn't pitched in the majors since Aug. 4, when he suffered a meniscus injury against the Houston Astros. Yesavage's knee appeared to buckle as he warmed up for the third inning and he was eventually removed from the game. He later underwent surgery to repair knee cartilage on Sept. 4.
Yesavage worked off the mound for the first time earlier in this week during a simulated game, throwing 30 pitches, with his fastball topping out at 93 m.p.h.
Schneider previously stated that the goal is for Yesavage to toss 40-50 pitches in a rehab outing, which is now set for Wednesday, and if all goes well, he could be activated for the majors shortly after.
In his first full MLB season, Yesavage has made 18 starts and has a 3.65 ERA with 91 strikeouts and 46 walks over 93.2 innings pitched.
Schneider said last week that if Yesavage returns to the Blue Jays this season, it will most likely be in a bulk role instead of as a traditional starter.
