ATLANTA — Chadwick Tromp’s two-out single in the 11th inning drove in Eli White from second base and Atlanta beat Washington for its fourth straight victory.
It was the first career walk-off hit for Tromp, who also had a run-scoring single in the 10th.
Tyler Kinley (4-2) picked up the win with a scoreless 11th inning. He stranded a runner at third by striking out Nasim Nuñez.

CHICAGO — Christian Vazquez homered, Spencer Arrighetti threw five scoreless innings and Houston topped scuffling Chicago.
Pete-Crow Armstrong hit his sixth home run of the season for the Cubs, who have dropped six straight and 10 of 12. They started this week’s homestand with a 15-game winning streak at Wrigley Field.
Arrighetti (6-1) won his second straight start after allowing two hits and four walks while striking out five. He issued a walk to start the third inning, then hit a pair of batters to load the bases, but worked out of the jam with a strikeout, infield popup and groundout.

YANKEES 4, RAYS 2
NEW YORK — Gerrit Cole pitched six scoreless innings in his return from elbow ligament replacement surgery but shortstop José Caballero’s error led to a four-run eighth inning that boosted the Tampa Bay Rays over the New York Yankees 4-2 on Friday night for their 16th win in 19 games.
Austin Wells homered for the first time since April 28, a fifth-inning drive off Nick Martinez, before Tampa Bay rallied to deal the Yankees their third straight loss and 10th in 14 games. The Rays, a big league-best 34-15, are 4-0 against the Yankees and opened a 5 1/2-game AL East lead over New York
Yankees star Aaron Judge went 0 for 4 with a game-ending flyout to the centre-field warning track with a man on and is in 1-for-24 slide that dropped his average to .245. Judge has gone a career-high 11 games without any RBIs.
A 35-year-old right-hander who had surgery in March 2025, Cole allowed two hits and three walks while striking out two. The six-time All-Star and the 2023 AL Cy Young Award averaged 96.1 mph with his four-seam fastball.
Caballero, back at shortstop after missing 10 days with a broken finger, allowed Chandler Simpson’s one-hopper to bounce off his glove leading of the eighth.
Junior Caminero singled off Tim Hill (0-2), Jonathan Aranda followed with an RBI double and Yandy Díaz was intentionally walked. Richie Palacios hit a comebacker that could have been a 1-2-3 double play but the ball bounced off the glove of a leaping Hill, over Caballero and into centre for a two-run single. Ryan Vilade added a sacrifice fly.
Ian Seymour (3-0) allowed Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s RBI triple in the eighth and Bryan Baker got three outs for his 14th save in 17 chances.

A.J. Ewing hit a two-out single against Petersen, but was thrown out by Joe Mack attempting to steal second.
Marlins centre fielder Jakob Marsee twice robbed Benge of extra-base hits with leaping catches at the wall in the first and sixth.

PHILADELPHIA — Kyle Manzardo hit a pinch-hit homer off Philadelphia closer Jhoan Duran in the ninth inning to preserve a terrific outing for starter Gavin Williams and lead Cleveland to a win.
Cade Smith worked a scoreless ninth for his 19th save in a game that needed just 2 hours, 5 minutes.
Cristopher Sánchez and Williams matched up in a classic pitchers’ duel where each tossed eight shutout innings in front of 38,092 fans on a rainy night. They were the first opposing starters to each pitch at least eight scoreless innings since Miami’s Ryan Weathers and Detroit’s Reese Olson on May 14, 2024.
Manzardo made Williams (7-3) a winner when the left-handed hitter launched a homer the opposite way to left off Duran (1-2).

Coming off his first shutout of the season, Sánchez ran his scoreless streak to 37 2/3 innings, which moved him past Cliff Lee (34 innings) into second place and within striking distance of the franchise record for consecutive scoreless innings. Williams was just as stout. He struck out 11 and walked none.

Minnesota’s four-run seventh ended a streak for Slaten (1-1) of 15 consecutive appearances dating to Sept. 16, 2025, without allowing a run. It was the third-longest active streak in the majors.
Wilyer Abreu had an RBI double. Willson Contreras, Andruw Monasterio, Marcelo Mayer and Jarren Duran all added RBIs for the Red Sox.

MILWAUKEE — William Contreras hit a three-run homer and Logan Henderson combined with three relievers on a three-hitter as Milwaukee defeated Los Angeles.

Milwaukee scored all of its runs in the first two innings off Justin Wrobleski (6-2), who allowed hits to six of the first seven batters he faced.
After Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang hit back-to-back singles, Contreras sent a 410-foot blast over the left-field wall. Wrobleski retired Christian Yelich before Andrew Vaughn, Jake Bauers and Luis Rengifo singled to load the bases.
Vaughn scored Milwaukee’s fourth run of the first inning on Sal Frelick’s sacrifice fly.

Leodys Taveras, who doubled in the second, reached on a bunt single to start the bottom of the fourth. Colton Cowser singled to put runners on the corners and Taveras scored on a balk to tie it 4-4.
