Alex Bregman is making himself at home in Chicago.
A day after agreeing to a five-year, $175 million contract with the Chicago Cubs, the 31-year-old made his first appearance in the Windy City.
The newly signed third baseman was in attendance as the Chicago Blackhawks faced the Edmonton Oilers at the United Center, and got a warm welcome as he was shown on the Jumbotron.
Dressed in a Blackhawks jersey, he appeared in good spirits despite the city’s NHL counterpart dropping the game 4-1.
Bregman, who turns 32 in March, played his first nine seasons with the Houston Astros, winning World Series titles in 2017 and 2022, before he signed a $120 million, three-year contract with the Boston Red Sox last February.
As he turns the page to a new chapter in his career, Bregman will enter a lineup in need of some fresh energy and some post-season experience, something he can provide.
If Monday night was any indication, Bregman is already embracing sports in his new hometown, and life in Chicago appears to be off to a smooth start.
