MIAMI — Griffin Conine hit a walk-off run-scoring single to lift the Marlins past Philadelphia and end Miami’s franchise-record 12-game losing streak.
Phillies closer Jhoan Duran (1-4) entered with a 7-5 lead before loading the bases with no outs and allowing a tying two-run single by Heriberto Hernández, who scored the winning run.
Hernández and Conine homered against Phillies ace Zack Wheeler. Jakob Marsee had a run-scoring double and Otto Lopez added an RBI triple for the Marlins, who hadn’t won a game since July 9. The Phillies have struggled since the All-Star break, losing seven of 10.
Phillips allowed three hits and two runs while walking two and striking out five. He was lifted after five innings and 76 pitches. Calvin Faucher (5-5) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.
RANGERS 7, MARINERS 3
ARLINGTON, Texas — Joc Pederson homered twice to drive in four runs and Ezequiel Duran and Jake Burger also went deep for the Texas Rangers in a 7-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday. They took three of four in the series to stretch their AL West lead to 2 1/2 games.
All four homers came in the first three innings off George Kirby (8-9). The right-hander had been 9-1 with a 1.33 ERA in his previous 13 career starts against the Rangers.
Texas righty Kumar Rocker (4-8) struck out seven while allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings. He had thrown one-hit ball over six scoreless innings six days earlier in a win against the Chicago White Sox.
The Rangers (54-52), the only AL West team with a winning record, had a half-game lead over the Mariners before winning the first two games of the series. Seattle (52-55) won 6-4 Sunday, when Texas lost for the first time this season when leading after six innings.
ORIOLES 8, TIGERS 5
DETROIT — Jackson Holliday had four hits and Baltimore hit three home runs in a win against Detroit.
The Orioles had gone nine straight games without a multi-homer game. But, against the Tigers, Baltimore went deep twice in the fifth and once in the sixth and scored in five of the first six innings.
Detroit lost its third straight game, falling to 50-57 and facing tough decisions heading into the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
Grant Wolfram (3-2) picked up the win in relief and Rico Garcia pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
PIRATES 3, DIAMONDBACKS 2, 10 INNINGS
PITTSBURGH — Brandon Lowe singled home Billy Cook in the bottom of the 10th inning to rally Pittsburgh to a win over Arizona.
Lowe finished a three-hit night by lacing a line drive off Diamondbacks reliever Taylor Clarke (2-2) that smacked off the glove of Arizona first baseman Ildemaro Vargas and rolled away, allowing Cook to race home as the Pirates pulled even with the Diamondbacks for the National League’s third wild-card spot.
Mason Montgomery (4-3) worked around an error by third baseman Nick Gonzales and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 10th to earn the victory. The Pirates’ bullpen, which has been a sore spot much of the season, tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
Pittsburgh’s Mitch Keller had his second straight solid start coming out of the All-Star break, giving up two runs in 5 1/3 innings, his only real mistake coming in the sixth when three singles loaded the bases, and Max Kepler followed with a rope to the corner in right that gave the Diamondbacks the lead.
BLUE JAYS 3, NATIONALS 2
WASHINGTON — Luis Urías homered, Myles Straw had a double and a run-scoring single, and Toronto celebrated Max Scherzer’s return to Washington with a win over the Nationals.
Scherzer came off the injured list to start on his 42nd birthday. In his first appearance since June 10, he gave up a run on four hits over 2 2/3 innings, throwing 75 pitches.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner’s night ended after he struck out Daylen Lile to end a 12-pitch at-bat and looked to the Toronto bench.
Scherzer, who spent about 6 1/2 seasons with the Nationals and helped them win the 2019 World Series, left to a standing ovation and waved as he neared the Blue Jays dugout after his 100th career start at Nationals Park.
Mason Fluharty (5-1) got the win as six Toronto relievers combined to allow one run in 6 1/3 innings. Louis Varland pitched the ninth for his 22 save, giving up a two-out single and a walk before striking out Luis García Jr.
The Blue Jays had lost seven of 10 since the All-Star break.

NEW YORK — Francisco Lindor homered twice and tripled off the top of the fence, driving in six runs as New York pulled away for a victory over Atlanta.
Former Blue Jay Marcus Semien hit a long two-run homer that snapped a 3-all tie in the sixth inning. Tyrone Taylor extended his tear at the plate with a three-run drive in the seventh as the last-place Mets (45-62) matched a season high with 19 hits and hammered a first-place opponent for the second consecutive day.
Taylor and Semien each had a three-run homer Sunday, when New York beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-3.
Lindor, Semien, Taylor, ex-Blue Jay Bo Bichette and rookie A.J. Ewing all had three hits as the Mets, minus injured slugger Juan Soto, scored double-digit runs for the 10th time this season.
Rookie starter Zac Thornton (2-1) allowed three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings. The left-hander struck out five and walked one in his fifth big league outing.
CUBS 7, CARDINALS 3
ST. LOUIS — Alex Bregman had a homer, two doubles and drove in two runs to lead Chicago to a win over St. Louis.
Bregman had sat out Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh after going hitless in his previous three games. Against the Cardinals, he snapped out of an 0-for-12 slump with four hits and scored three runs in a game that was delayed an hour and 46 at the start due to rain.
Nico Hoerner also had four hits, including a two-run homer in the ninth as the Cubs banged out 14 hits in the win.
David Peterson (6-7) worked 5 2/3 innings and earned the win. The 30-year-old left-hander, who was acquired on June 25 from the New York Mets, struck out two and allowed two runs on three hits and two walks.
Matthew Liberatore (5-8) was tagged for three runs on eight hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings.
Chicago has won eight of its last 12 games. Since the All-Star break, the Cardinals are 3-8 and slipped to 6-14 in their last 20 games.
GIANTS 3, BREWERS 0
SAN FRANCISCO — Grant McCray hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning and Tyler Mahle threw six sharp innings as San Francisco downed Milwaukee.
Giants’ Luis Arraez got the scoring started in the third inning, knocking in rookie catcher Jesus Rodriguez from second base for the first run of the game.
Not long after, McCray followed it up with a 406-foot deep shot to left field, batting in himself and Willie Adames to take a 3-0 lead they would never surrender. It was also McCray’s first home run since 2024, as the back-up filled in at right field for injured starter Jung Hoo Lee.
Giants’ RHP Tyler Mahle (3-9) earned the win, holding the Brewers scoreless through the first six innings and allowing only three hits on the night.
Milwaukee starting pitcher Brandon Sprout was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs and six hits in six innings, falling to 3-6 on the season. Reliever Garrett Stallings replaced Sprout in the seventh.
The Brewers’ offence couldn’t muster any momentum as the team’s home run leader, Jake Bauers, only collected one hit, while William Contreras and Brice Turang were held hitless.
RED SOX 4, ATHLETICS 2
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Ceddanne Rafaela hit his first major league grand slam and the Boston beat the Athletics after being held without a hit through five innings Monday night.
Connor Wong doubled leading off the sixth for the first hit against Athletics rookie starter Jack Perkins (2-6), who was pulled after walking Willson Contreras with two outs. José Suarez walked Wilyer Abreu to load the bases, setting the stage for Rafaela's 11th homer and a 4-1 lead.
Curtis Mead struck out looking his first time up in his Boston debut and then left after he was hit on the wrist by a pitch his second time up. The Red Sox acquired Mead from the Wasington Nationals on Saturday night for rookie pitcher Connelly Early.
Tyler Soderstrom extended his hitting streak to 10 games when he launched his 17th homer to give the Athletics a 1-0 lead two batters into the bottom of the first against Payton Tolle. Jonah Heim homered for the 10th time to cut it to 4-2 in the sixth.
Tolle (6-6) allowed two runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked one to help the surging Red Sox (55-50) win for the 18th time in 20 games.
ASTROS 6, ANGELS 4
ANAHEIM, Calif. — LaMonte Wade Jr. drew a bases-loaded walk that forced home the go-ahead run in a four-run ninth inning, and Houston came back to beat Los Angeles.
The Astros rallied in their final at-bat on a hit, two walks, two errors and two hit batters to hand the Angels their ninth loss this season when leading after eight innings.
Houston trailed 4-0 after three, but Taylor Trammell homered for a second straight game and the fifth time this season to cut it to 4-1 in the fourth.
Jeremy Peña doubled leading off the eighth against Ryan Zeferjahn, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI single to make it 4-2.
José Fermin (3-2) hit Trammell with a pitch leading off the ninth. Christian Walker singled and Trammell scored to make it 4-3 when second baseman Vaughn Grissom let Lucas Spence's potential double-play grounder go through his legs for a costly error.
Sam Bachman entered and got an out before walking Alvarez intentionally to load the bases. Bachman grazed Isaac Paredes with a pitch to tie it, and Wade walked to give Houston the lead. Alvarez scored the final run when Jose Altuve reached on a fielding error by Bachman.
Tatsuya Imai didn't make it out of the first inning for the third time this season in a start for Houston. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Nolan Schanuel and an RBI single to Grissom before AJ Blubaugh came in to get the final out of the inning.
