Kevin Gausman's third start with the Chicago Cubs ended earlier than expected.
The right-hander was forced to leave after 4.1 innings against the White Sox due to a left-hand cramp, the team announced.
Before exiting, Gausman allowed seven hits and three runs, including a homer to Munetaka Murakami. He did manage five strikeouts, but he also walked two batters.
Gausman was acquired by the Cubs at the trade deadline from the Toronto Blue Jays as they look to make a run down the stretch. He dominated in his first start, going seven innings and allowing just two runs. However, his second Cubs outing was rough; he lasted just 4.2 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits.
Entering Tuesday, Gausman had a 4.53 ERA and 1.273 WHIP in 25 starts. The 35-year-old will be a free agent following the season.
