Former Blue Jays LHP Anthony Banda opts for free agency after clearing waivers

The Toronto Blue Jays announced left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda has elected for free agency after clearing waivers Saturday.

Banda, who was designated for assignment this past Monday, posted a 4.26 ERA, 1.579 WHIP and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings through seven relief appearances with the Blue Jays.

The 28-year-old from Corpus Christi, Texas, was traded to Toronto from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations on July 2.

He has a combined 5.88 ERA, 1.885 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 26 innings through 30 total relief appearances this season.
