After a down year at the plate, a couple of Seattle Mariners sluggers had undergo off-season procedures.
Catcher Cal Raleigh and Canadian first baseman Josh Naylor have had surgeries but are expected to be ready for the start of spring training, the Mariners announced Monday.
Raleigh had a left shoulder acromioclavicular debridement procedure, while Naylor underwent triangular fibrocartilage complex repair surgery on his right wrist. Both procedures were performed on Oct. 3.
After finishing second in MVP voting with an MLB-leading 60 home runs in the 2025 season, Raleigh fell far below expectations in 2026, slashing .182/.296/.368 with only 23 homers in 126 games.
Though the 29-year-old's numbers improved in the latter half of August, hitting seven home runs over a 10-game span, he struggled again in September, with only three round-trippers in 22 games.
Naylor, meanwhile, also saw his production take a hit after batting .295 with 20 homers in 2025. He finished the season with a .261 batting average, 10 home runs and a .667 OPS over 152 games.
The step back from the two sluggers coincided with an overall drop-off in Seattle, as the Mariners finished with a 76-83 record and missed the playoffs.
