The Seattle Mariners are adding another Canadian to their bullpen.
Seattle announced Friday night that it has selected the contract of right-handed reliever Zach Pop to the major-league roster. Rookie Logan Evans was optioned to triple-A Tacoma to make room for the Brampton native.
Pop began the year with the Toronto Blue Jays, but was designated for assignment and released ahead of Opening Day. He signed with the Mariners as a minor-league free agent on April 16.
In nine games with Seattle's triple-A affiliate, Pop has posted a 3.52 ERA and struck out six.
Last season with the Blue Jays, the 28-year-old finished with a 5.59 ERA over 48.1 innings.
Pop will join fellow Canuck Matt Brash among Seattle relievers.
