A former fan-favourite prospect is getting the call against his former team.
Slovakian-Canadian pitcher Adam Macko has been recalled by the Texas Rangers for Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the team announced.
Right-hander Michel Otañez was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Macko made only 22 appearances with the Blue Jays this season before he was traded for utility man Josh Smith at the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
The 25-year-old southpaw had a 4.91 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 10 walks over 22 innings with the Blue Jays, and has struggled in 6.2 innings in the Lone Star State, pitching to an 8.10 ERA.
Acquired by the Blue Jays along with Erik Swanson from the Seattle Mariners for Teoscar Hernandez just after the 2022 season, Macko was born in Slovakia but eventually immigrated to Canada at age 11 and trained at Vauxhall Academy of Baseball in Alberta.
Now he'll line up to pitch against his former club as they try to fight back into the American League wild-card race. Toronto entered play Saturday one game back of Texas and 2.5 games back of the Chicago White Sox for the final spot.
