Carlos Correa won't be seen on a Major League diamond again until at least next season.
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters Tuesday that the three-time all-star infielder won't return this season.
Correa has been out since May 4 with an ankle injury. As Espada said, Correa didn't suffer any sort of setback in his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery but the daily workload and recovery became too much for the 31-year-old to handle in order to make an effort to return to the lineup in time for a potential post-season run.
The Astros lead the American League West by one game over the Texas Rangers.
Before his injury, Correa was batting .279/.369/.418 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 32 games played.
