After a very long wait, Rudy Martin Jr. is finally getting a taste of major-league action.
The Toronto Blue Jays are recalling the 30-year-old from triple-A Buffalo, clearing the way for Martin to make his MLB debut after 12 years in the minor leagues, the team announced Friday.
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays designated Jesus Sanchez for assignment.
The outfielder joined the Blue Jays organization in July, when he was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.
Martin Jr. has a .253/.351/.379 slash line with three home runs and 11 RBIs across 95 plate appearances. He has also added 12 stolen bases in 27 games.
Martin is known for his speed, having stolen 45 bases on the season and 239 in his minor-league career.
Martin was designated for assignment by the Orioles on July 20, just days after the team acquired him from the Kansas City Royals.
He was a 25th-round draft pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2014.
