Report: Cardinals naming Oliver Marmol as new manager

The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to announce on Monday morning that Oliver Marmol will be the club's new manager, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.

Marmol has been the bench coach for the Cardinals since 2017. At 35 years old, Marmol will be the youngest manager in Major League Baseball.

As a player, Marmol was drafted in the sixth round during the 2007 MLB Draft. In 2011, Marmol became the hitting coach for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals, St. Louis' Rookie Level club. The Orlando, FL native was the manager of the Palm Beach Cardinals, St. Louis' Low-A affiliate, in 2015.

The Cardinals finished with a 90-72 record in 2021, securing one of the two National League Wild Card spots. The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cardinals in the NL Wild Card game 3-1.
