The Chicago Cubs and their new star outfielder appeared to have found common ground.
Kyle Tucker has reportedly agreed to a $16.5 million contract with the team for 2025, avoiding an arbitration hearing, per ESPN's Jesse Rogers.
Chicago acquired the three-time All-Star last month as part of a three-for-one swap with the Houston Astros, giving up 3B Isaac Paredes, RHP Hayden Wesneski and 3B Cam Smith to get Tucker.
The 27-year-old was limited to 78 games this year because of a fractured right shin, but he hit .289 with 23 homers and 49 RBIs for the AL West champion Astros. He batted .284 with 29 homers, an AL-best 112 RBIs and 30 steals in 2023.
After spending his first seven seasons in Houston, he now gets set to step into Chicago's outfield that will no longer feature Cody Bellinger, as he's a Yankee now
The Cubs have finished second in the NL Central with an 83-79 record in each of the past two years, and have not made the playoffs since 2020.
Meanwhile, Tucker previously stated he was open to working out a long-term deal with the Cubs, but it appears that conversation has been postponed for the time being.
