Report: Franco close to 10-plus-year extension with Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays are nearing an extension with shortstop Wander Franco, expected to be worth close to $200 million, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports the deal is for 12 years.

The 20-year-old rookie played in 70 games in the 2021 season, posting a .288/.347./.463 slash line.

Exact terms aren't yet known and final details are still being worked out, according to Topkin.
