The Tampa Bay Rays are nearing an extension with shortstop Wander Franco, expected to be worth close to $200 million, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the deal is for 12 years.
Shortstop Wander Franco and the Tampa Bay Rays are in agreement on a 12-year contract that guarantees him around $185 million, sources tell ESPN. The deal is worth a maximum of $223 million. It is done, pending small details. The 20-year-old is going to be a Ray for a long time.

The 20-year-old rookie played in 70 games in the 2021 season, posting a .288/.347./.463 slash line.
Exact terms aren’t yet known and final details are still being worked out, according to Topkin.
