Ahead of his pending free agency, the Colorado Rockies have put catcher Elias Díaz up for grabs.
According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Rockies placed the 2023 All-Star Game MVP on outright waivers, meaning any team can claim his services for the approximately $1.5 million remaining on his contract and a $50,000 waiver fee.
Díaz earned his first career trip to the Midsummer Classic in 2023, in the midst of a season that saw him post a .725 OPS with 14 home runs and 72 RBIs.
However, the 33-year-old backstop's results have fallen off through 84 games in 2024, as he owns just a .693 OPS with five home runs so far this season.
In Rosenthal's report, he said that "no club expressed a significant desire to add" Díaz at this year's trade deadline despite reports suggesting that he was available.
Since Díaz has over five years of major league service time, if he clears waivers, he can reject an assignment to the minors if Colorado tries to send him down.
The deadline for teams to submit a claim is 1 p.m. ET on Friday.
